June 8, 2019 - At the 2019 Northwest Regional Emmy® Awards, LOS ARTISTAS, produced by Laila Kazmi for Seattle’s PBS television station KCTS 9 won the Emmy for Best Arts and Entertainment Program. This was Laila’s second Emmy Award and fifth nomination.

LOS ARTISTAS (The Artists) tells the story of four Northwest Latino artists, for whom art is not only a form of expression but also a proclamation of heritage. Meet visual artist Juan Alonso-Rodríguez, poet Claudia Castro Luna, folk musician Abel Rocha, and dancer and choreographer Alicia Mullikin. Stories in the show were produced by Laila Kazmi, Aileen Imperial, and Stephen Hegg.

Laila’s previous Emmy win was for IN Close: When Music is Medicine (2016). She was previously nominated for Heartwood (2015), Sending Help and Hope to Syrian Refugees (2017), Nidoto Nai Yoni (Let it Not Happen Again) (2018). Laila’s new documentary short A Healing Act, produced for Seattle Channel is nominated for a 2020 Emmy Award.
