Laila Kazmi is an Emmy Award-winning producer and filmmaker. Her first love is discovering and telling stories of diverse people, places, and history. Laila worked as a senior producer at Seattle's PBS television station, where she pitched, launched, and produced the immigration series Borders & Heritage, which was selected for international distribution in over forty countries and respective languages. Laila also served as a series producer for the independent film series REEL NW and wrote and produced numerous stories. In 2016, Laila received a NW EMMY® Award for this story: When Music Is Medicine and has been nominated for the Award four times. Laila was a 2015 and 2018 CPB Fellow at the International Public Television (INPUT) conference in Tokyo, Japan and Brooklyn, NY, respectively.

Laila’s articles have been published in PBS NewsHour Art Beat, KCTS9.org, The Seattle Times, COLORLINES, Pakistan’s daily Dawn, and various other publications. Her video stories have aired on PBS stations in Seattle (KCTS 9), San Diego (KPBS), and Boston (World Channel, WGBH). Her short documentaries have been selected for the Portland Film Festival, Women In Film & Television International Women (WIFTI) Short Film Showcase, Women In Film - Chicago and Seattle, South Asian International Documentary festival (Tasveer Seattle), and Arab Festival (Seattle).

In addition to video production, Laila also has advanced knowledge of HTML, CSS, jQuery and is especially interested in opportunities for interactive storytelling.

Laila has a penchant for international independent films and has had the pleasure to serve on selection panels for REEL NW, NFFTY, Seattle South Asian Film Festival, INPUT 2016, and has curated short film programs. Currently, Laila is programming the 13th Tasveer South Asian Film Festival, the largest South Asian film festival in America. Laila is a Board Member for National Film Festival for Talented Youth (NFFTY).
